I’m a huge list maker. Truth be told, I am probably too big of a list maker….Sometimes I make a list for the lists I have to make 🙂 So, with that being said, I’ve been checking items off of my “Things to Do” list and just basically taking stock of where I stand with my holiday preparations.
Whew, I was able to finish my shopping this past weekend mostly with the help of Amazon.com, Target.com, and Gymboree. Thank Goodness!! I am only slightly behind schedule, as I usually try to get everything purchased by the first weekend in December so I have the remaining weeks to wrap presents and enjoy the holidays. This year I had some delays due to illnesses, doctor appointments, school, sports, and just other basic life interruptions. I am very happy that now I can cross everything off my shopping list and move on to wrapping presents.
Christmas Tree Is Up and Decorated
The weekend of Thanksgiving we got our Christmas tree and decorations down from the attic and decorated the house. I really enjoy getting the house decorated because it makes the place so much prettier than our regular decor. I started an ornament collection for each of the kids when they were born and have added one special ornament to each of their collections every year. This year the girls got Disney Princess ornaments and the boys got Superheroes (which I might add I purchased at Kohls when they were on sale at 50% off).
Outside Christmas Decorations Up
Hubby put the lights up outside this past weekend. We have a few lawn decorations, a lighted Nativity set, lights in the hedges and trees out front, and lights on the roof line. It didn’t take too long to get everything done, especially since the older kids were helping. Nothing like putting lights on the roof in 80 degree weather!
Took Kids to Hollywood Studios to See Osborne Lights
We have Disney annual passes so this year the kids wanted to see the display of the Osborne Lights at Hollywood Studios. We went there last week and I will have to say it was a pretty awesome spectacle! The only thing was that the area where the lights were displayed was very crowded. Everyone was stopping in place to take pictures with their cell phones, so it was a little difficult to walk down the street and get the overall experience. We were fortunate enough to get there right when the lights were turned on so that was fun to see. Also, as we were walking down the street, “snow” began to fall and Bing Crosby’s “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” song was playing. Definitely got us into the Christmas spirit ~ fun, fun, fun!!
Okay, so my done list is looking pretty good at this point. However my “to do” list isn’t as short as I would like:
Things To Do:
Mail Christmas Cards This Week
Well at least I have my Christmas cards to send out but I need to write them, address them, and actually put them into the mail. I have a goal of getting this accomplished by Friday of this week.
Go to a Christmas Holiday Concert
Our Church is hosting a community wide Christmas concert this coming weekend. We’re planning to grab a bite to eat somewhere and take the kids to the concert. Afterwards, we’ll drive the local neighborhoods to look at the Christmas displays.
Bake Cupcakes for Kids’ Parties at School
I’m actually kind of worried about this one just because it’s so hard to fit in extra baking time with an already overbooked week. I need to bake 35 cupcakes for an upcoming party as well as treats for my Sunday School class. I really love making homemade treats (my Kitchenaid mixer is my BFF) but I’m hoping no surprises pop up this week (sicknesses, other parties to bake for, etc.) or I will probably have to drop in to the local Target bakery to get some treats.
Wrap All Presents
I’m planning on wrapping a few presents every morning from now until Christmas to get them all done. I have a tiny area on a desk in the garage which I’ve set aside for this purpose. I’d rather be able to just sit down and wrap everything at one time, but I’m not going to have the luxury of that much of a block of time to set aside just for this. I may have to enlist the help of hubby to complete this task in time for Santa to make his deliveries.
Have Friday Family Nights and Watch our Favorite Christmas Movies
The next two Friday nights we have scheduled for family fun nights. We have a nice collection of Christmas movies (Rudolph, Frosty, Charlie Brown, etc.) and we’ve made it a family tradition to sit down together to watch these. I will have some of the kid’s favorite snacks on hand while we enjoy the shows.
So how are you coming along with your holiday plans?
