How To Redecorate Your Bathroom On A Budget

Bathrooms are one of the most expensive rooms to redecorate, as the basic necessities are so pricey. Many people shy away from remodeling when they realize what they stand to spend by making only a few, slight changes. Homeowners have due cause to be hesitant when it comes redecorating a bathroom, but every high cost has a cheaper alternative which can be found with a little bit of research. Here are some ways to stretch your budget when redecorating your bathroom:

DIY, if you can
You should always do it yourself if you can. Service costs are always astronomical and often unnecessary. If you are willing to watch a few online videos then you will quickly be able to see how easy it is to do things by yourself. By cutting out service costs you will always save huge amounts money and gain the satisfaction of completing a project, independently. Home Depot or Lowe’s offer classes on all types of home improvement projects.

Install bright lights
The bathroom is a place that is synonymous with cleanliness. Bright lights accentuate colors and thereby make them look newer and cleaner. Your bathroom will transform, instantly, if you install new lights. This small change is one of the fundamental steps when it comes to redecorating your bathroom.

Use paint
When redecorating your bathroom you don’t have to tile all the walls. Paint is a cost effective alternative and it can look just as good. You should always use simple, light colors when painting your bathroom. The bathroom is a place associated with relaxation and light colors always promote calmness. Lighter colors also look cleaner and thereby emphasize the function of a bathroom.

You don’t need designer tiles
You do not need expensive, handmade tiles when you are renovating the floor; plain, generic tiles will do the same job at half the cost. The tiles should always be a neutral color which accessories, like towels and bath mats, can be matched to. Generic tiles, which resemble marble or stone floors, can also be a nice touch to any bathroom. You do not need to spend thousands on stone floors when tiles can look very similar.

Install new faucets
Replacing an entire tub or basin can be expensive, but it is not necessary. New faucets will inject new life into your entire bathroom. For the cost of a few faucets you can make your entire bathroom look completely refurbished. The faucets are one of the most noticeable bathroom items and it will be a make huge difference to replace them.

Mirrors
A mirror is the most important bathroom accessory. If your bathroom is large enough then you should hang up multiple mirrors for an increased effect. A mirror with a color-coordinated frame is a great, cost-effective addition to a bathroom that is being redecorated.

Use plants or shells
Place shells around the bathtub or in the windowsills. They are beautiful and can be collected for free. Plants always infuse a living space with freshness and they look great in a newly decorated bathroom.

Great tips! It is so true you can redecorate on a budget. We did and so did some of my friends. One friend regrouted the bathroom and painted the tiles, changed the taps and it made a HUGE difference. Like a complete make over for a fraction of the cost.

Good tips indeed. I have a second floor bathroom and I heard if you put tile upstairs it can crack a lot easier. I think I may just use the dreaded linoleum (definitely spelled that wrong…).

Great tips! My mom wanted to redo her bathroom one time but didn’t have money, so we just repainted her bathroom cabinets, and it was a good, low cost way to freshen up the room.

The bathroom in our house is in excellent condition… but the tub & toilet were green, and the bathroom was painted pink! We have already replaced the light fixture, mirror, faucet and toilet, and we’ll be hiring a company to re-glaze the tub white. Then we’ll paint the room a warm neutral colour, and it should look like a whole new bathroom!

I’m so glad you mentioned the mirror, because we did that in our powder room and it made a HUGE difference! We took down the construction-grade mirror installed by the builders and replaced it with a $99 hanging mirror from Lowe’s that was surrounded by rough-cut travertine. It’s GORGEOUS!
