Are you looking for some good buys this month? I’m always hoping to find a good price on one of the items that’s already on my shopping list, so I look around at a lot of different places. I check them all: discount stores, shopping centers, and websites.
This October, as you’re on the hunt for a bargain or two, be on the lookout for these types of buys:
Fall Clothes – When sweaters and twill pants first started showing up in storefronts last August, they were awfully tempting. At the time, I resisted the temptation and stuck to my plan of purchasing summer clothes for next year from the clearance racks. Now, though, that restraint will pay off when those lovely fall clothes start making their way to the clearance section of the stores.
Summer Fabrics – You already know that I’m a crafter, so it shouldn’t surprise you that I keep an eye on the sales at fabric stores. I was delighted to find that summer fabrics like seersucker and linen are now at rock bottom prices. I can’t wait to make a little girl’s jumper or two out of these fun fabrics.
Toys – Retailers who are hoping to get a jump on the year’s Christmas sales usually start featuring different toys in their weekly sales. I’ve got my list of Christmas purchases ready and am waiting for the sales to hit one of those items.
Gas Grills – If your local home improvement center still has some grills on display, you can bet that the grills will be on sale now. These outdoor cooking centers even come assembled so all you have to do is load it up and bring it home. (The guys at the store will probably help you load it.)
Tires – Tire retailers like Good Year and Firestone typically run specials during October for sets of tires. One of my favorite specials is the “Buy 3 Get 1 Free” deal. Since I drive the kids around in my car, I always take care to make sure the car is as safe as possible. Sales like these make it easy to keep the associated costs down.

Thank you for this great post! I was actually wondering when would be a good time to buy tires because I need a new set for my car so this is great. I will have to look around now and see who has the best promotion going on!
Another thing that you can find really cheap in October is Thanksgiving stuff. Usually right after the holiday is over, stores have 50% off or more. It’s a great time to get some decor and other items for next year!

I really like this advice and heads up about timely savings on purchases. I have found other helpful money saving articles and weekly deals, as well as some coupons at Pennypinchinghints.com.

I would agree with everything in this post, except for probably toys. I would only disagree because of two words–Black Friday.
Any item you are thinking of purchasing now that could remotely be given as a Christmas gift will more than likely have a great price on it on Black Friday.
Oh, and if you don’t have the time nor patience to deal with the stores, just wait. Cyber Monday follows right after. That is where I plan on doing the majority of my Christmas shopping–from the comofrt of my own home, proboably in my pajamas!

Great Advice!
I have saved money by buying clothes at the end of each season-ie-buy summer suits duing close out when the new winter suits are being stocked-and visa versa.
Men’s fashions do not change much-and I have stuck with the traditional blue and grey suits. I ususally get the new suits at 50% off regular price.
Thanks
