Quick Cash: How to Come up with Some Quick Cash without Taking out a Loan

Quick cash has some real benefits in any family’s financial plan. Sometimes you are surprised by bills or expenses that leave you needing cash right away. The ability to come up with that cash quickly will keep an unexpected emergency from becoming a crippling blow to your family’s budget.

Fortunately, there are several ways to raise money in a hurry. Below are a few methods that I’ve used in the past when we’re in a bind. Each method has its own perks, so look for the one that best suits your situation.

Pawn Shops – If you need money today, visiting your neighborhood pawn shop may be your best solution. You can quickly sell your unwanted items and walk away with money in your pocket. Electronics and jewelry are very popular items for pawn shops. Just make sure you have a rough idea what your items are worth before you walk into the store. This knowledge will ensure that you aren’t being taken advantage of.

eBay – Selling items on eBay is another quick and easy way to pad your checkbook. Although earning money on eBay doesn’t have the same instant gratification that selling items to pawns shops has, eBay may be a better market for many of the items you have lying around the house. You can always set up shorter auction lengths if you need to get your money faster.

Contract Work – Lots of people have some skills that allow them to take on short-term work outside of their normal jobs. Perhaps you are an accountant. You could offer to complete some individual’s income tax returns for a fee. Likewise, a graphic artist may be able to pick up a few freelance projects to supplement his income. Take stock of your talents and try to find others who need that type of work. Who knows? You may even build a small business out of your foray into contract work.

Offer Services – If you have more time than you have money, this is a great way to earn a little extra cash. You don’t necessarily have to be talented. Do you have a working lawn mower? You could go door to door in your neighborhood and offer to mow a few lawns for a fee. Are you at home with the kids all day? You could offer to baby-sit for another mother in the neighborhood for a few hours so that she can get some errands done. You’ll find that you can quickly turn your time into cash just be letting others know what you want to do.

a great place to find that extra contract work would be on craigslist for local listings or you can always check out elance.com or getafreelancer.com

I always find myself selling items on craigslist or seeking out extra work on one of those two other sites.

I agree with all of it, but I would move pawn shop to the bottom of the list. I thnk you can make “better” money with the other options.

Also, on the topic of pawn shops, I would only utilize them for items you no longer want—don’t ever pawn anything! The interest is a rip-off and there are certainly better ways to get money if you need it. But for selling unwanted items they are a good outlet, if the item isn’t in good enough condition to sell on Amazon or Ebay…

Have to ditto what David. Do you have any acutal experience with pawn shops? there’ s a reason they have such a shady reputation, becus they cater to mostly low-income people with few assets and you’ll get a fraction of the true value of any items you try to pawn. I wouldn’t even include it in the list at all.

Nice info bro, but though pawn shop and ebay sound great, I would go with the other two. You know contract works and offer services earn us a little money in very less time.
