If you’re looking for a few summer bargain, August may be the perfect month for you. As retailers minds turn towards fall and the kids’ return to school, they are more than motivated to move their remaining summer merchandise on out the door. Here are some bargains you might find:

Pool Toys/Water Guns – Now is the time to stock up on pool inflatables and water guns to help your kids while away the summer hours. You may divvy some of them out now, or you might prefer to put them away for next summer. Then, as soon as the weather turns warm, you’re ready for fun.

Over-sized Carryalls – Moms everywhere understand the value in having a bag that can hold everything you need. Fortunately, the large tote bags that are so prevalent during the summer months are perfect for this very need. If you are particularly hard on your tote, pick up two or three once they go on sale. When your current bag becomes too worn, you’ll have a spare.

Summer Clothes – August is the perfect time to find summer clothes at a great price. We tend to buy a few outfits for the kids to start school in; then we start picking out clothes to put away for next summer.

Patio Sets – Patio furniture take up tons of floor space in stores, so stores really need to get them sold. Early in August you can expect to start seeing discounts around 25%. As the months move on, though, those discounts may climb even higher. If you’ve been eyeing those display sets all summer long, now is the time to start seriously shopping.

Outdoor Living Supplies – Patio sets aren’t the only outdoor items on sale in August. Planters, outdoor lighting, all-weather cushions, and just about everything else you can imagine for outdoor living will be marked down to drastically lower prices during the month of August. I like to purchase the things I need now and then put them away until next summer. Next year, when my neighbors are spending a fortune to get their outdoor spaces ready, I’ll simply pull out my clearance purchases and get ready to enjoy them.

Another trick we have found is that it is worth it to try some of the stuff that seems gimmicky. We got a free gel block with our bucket of pool chlorine once and tried it – it keeps our pool clearer, brighter and bluer while helping us use a third to half less chlorine for a cost of R14.99 (about $2) and with using less chlorine, there is less of that awful chlorine smell

In addition to school clothes, there are also a variety of ther “school related” items that one can find deals on.

Laptops and desktops for one. I have recently seen some unbelievable clearance deals at places like Office Depot and Staples.

Speaking of which, it was also a perfect time to re-stock my office with all of the knick knacks I need–paper clips, staples, post-its, etc.
