Wow! Is it really time to start shopping for school supplies again? My latest visit to Target has definitely confirmed that back to school season is coming up very quickly. Before you know it, you’ll be ushering the kids back to school and wondering where the summer went.
Before you can send the kids back to school, though, you’ve got to get their school supplies together. Planning your shopping carefully can help you get the most bang for your buck when it comes to school supplies.
Get your school’s approved list of supplies before you start shopping. The last thing you want to do is to buy your kids the coolest new type of pen and then find out that they’re not allowed to use them for school. Be sure to get the list before you go shopping and figure out what the kids will need. Lists are available at some retailers (like Wal-mart), but you can also download it from most schools’ websites.
Take advantage of special sales. School supplies can be on sale at some of the most unexpected places. A few weeks ago, I even saw them on sale at my favorite grocery store. Start shopping now so that you will recognize a good price when you see it.
Shop for generic items without the kids. Your kids are certain to want to pick out their own folders or backpacks. They don’t necessarily need to be with you when you pick up notebook paper or crayons. You can pick these items up as you find them on sale and start stashing them away for the first day of school.
Stock up on items that the kids will need throughout the year. Are your kids old enough to use notebook paper? Be sure to buy a few extra packages so that you will have some on hand when they run out. The last thing you want to do is to have to make a late night run to Wal-mart so that your son or daughter can do his homework.
