The last few days I’ve found my mind preoccupied with thoughts of Father’s Day gift ideas. Do you realize that Father’s Day is just around the corner? You’d think that Mother’s Day would tip me off and that I’d start thinking of gift ideas then, but I’m afraid that procrastination got the better of me. I’ve brainstormed a list of ideas and so far, here are the ones I’ve come up with:
Labor of Love Gifts – One of the best things you can do for your dad (or your kids can do for their dad) is to give them a gift that frees them from one of their chores. Does your dad mow the yard every week? Why not give him the afternoon off and take care of it for him. Washing the car, taking out the trash, or washing the dog are other chores that are perfect for this type of gift.
Coupon Books – Home computers have come a long way in the past few years. The kids (with a little help from you) could make really nice coupon books for your husband giving them gifts to cash in whenever they want. You could list chores like the idea above on the coupons, or you could create coupons that let Dad have his way once in a while. If the kids always rule the movie rental choices, perhaps you will let him select a movie the next time you’re visiting the Red Box. Another coupon could allow Dad to select the pizza toppings when you order a pizza. Since dads often silence their own preferences, this gift will allow them to get a vote in the family’s small choices.
Sweet Treats – You probably make the kids favorite desserts all the time, but when was the last time you made the German chocolate cake that is your dad’s favorite? For very little money, you could show your dad how important he is by making him a favorite tasty dish.
Unique Family Photos – Father’s Day is a great occasion to give your husband or dad a new picture for his desk. Before you clip out the latest round of school pictures for this gift, though, consider this cool picture option. Have everyone hold up signs in the photo that say things like “We love you Dad!” or “Our dad is the best!” You can have prints made very cheaply at Wal-mart and pick up a stylish frame at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Dad is sure to smile every time he sees this photo.

Dad’s are usually easier to shop for than mom’s because they don’t necessarily want or expect anything big. Something smaller and sincere can go along way with a dad.
