No matter what part of the country you live in, the arrival of summer always brings certain things with it: warm weather, bright sunshine, and even the opportunity to earn a little summer income. If you need to earn some extra money during this summer, you only need to look to the things that people need during the summer to find inspiration.
Baby-sitting – Many families that don’t normally use daycare find themselves in need of a little help during the summer months. Even if your neighbor’s children are old enough to be home alone for an hour or two after school, they may not be old enough to spend an entire day unsupervised. You can earn some extra cash this summer by taking care of an elementary school-aged child or two while they are on their summer breaks. Your kids may even appreciate having a steady playmate during their holiday from school.
House Sitting – Summer turns many families’ thoughts to vacation, but they are often left with one dilemma, finding someone to look after their homes while they are away. Offering to look in on area homes, watering houseplants, and sometimes even occupying empty homes can be a lucrative way to fund your summer plans. You could advertise on neighborhood bulletin boards or simply rely on word-of-mouth referrals to keep yourself busy all summer.
Pool Cleaning – Busy homeowners who really enjoy their backyard pool usually have one complaint about their pools. Pool maintenance can take up a lot of time. Who has time to enjoy their little backyard oasis after they’ve spent their weekends cleaning it? On the other hand, a regular cleaning three or four times a week wouldn’t take much time at all. By arranging to do simple tasks like straining out leaves or bugs each day for several families with pools, you can make their lives easier and earn a few extra dollars.
Seasonal Parks and Attractions – Many areas have theme parks or attractions that are only open during the summer months. These types of businesses thrive upon finding workers who are only interested in working during the summer. Although most of these businesses will have hiring fairs in early spring, they will often continue hiring workers throughout the season to replace people who didn’t work out. Check out websites for theme parks, zoos, and other attractions for hiring information.
