Looking at purchases from the seller's POV (such as your example with vacuum cleaners) is a great way to save money. I'd just be careful that you're not out there buying stuff you don't need solely because it's on sale. It's easier to walk around enjoying the sunshine when you're not trapped in the mall. :) Great post!
