April Steals and Deals

April 11th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Spring is a wonderful time to shop. I love walking from shop to shop in the sunshine. The problem is that my pocketbook can’t always handle my love of spring shopping.

In order to get through this time of year without breaking our budget, I’ve learned to limit my shopping to items that I know we can get for a steal. Check out these things that are typically on sale during April:

Candy – The week or so before Easter you will see lots of candy on sale for use in Easter baskets. The day or so after Easter, though, you will see scads of it on clearance. Drop by grocery stores or discount stores that typically have a special section for seasonal items like these. They need to clear those quickly for the next display, so they are especially motivated to get rid of leftovers.

Spring Clothes – Even if your little ones don’t need new suit coats or dresses for Easter Sunday, you can still take advantage of the sales leading up to the holiday. I just saw a commercial the other day for chiffon dresses for little girls for $10. With prices that low, I can’t wait to see what happens after Easter has passed. I might select a couple of dresses in larger sizes to put away for next year if the clearance prices are right.

Vacuum Cleaners – An article over on MSN stated that vacuum cleaner manufacturers release their new models in June. That means that April and May are prime times to buy the old models at a discount. Who actually needs the latest and greatest version of a vacuum cleaner? Be sure to check open stock items at electronics places like Best Buy for closeout prices on the old model.

Airline Tickets – If you’ve actually got money put away for a family vacation, now may be the time to go for it. Airlines have been offering lower fares in an effort to get more people to fly. Check out your favorite booking engine or call a travel agent to see if you can book that summer vacation you thought was too expensive.

    Great post!

Looking at purchases from the seller’s POV (such as your example with vacuum cleaners) is a great way to save money. I’d just be careful that you’re not out there buying stuff you don’t need solely because it’s on sale. It’s easier to walk around enjoying the sunshine when you’re not trapped in the mall. :)
