In my quest to cut costs and eat healthier, about one year ago I started making my own homemade maple syrup!
Now don’t get me wrong…I’m not saying that maple syrup is healthy!
However, I do like that this recipe uses real sugar as opposed to High Fructose Corn Syrup.
This recipe makes a light tasting syrup, that is delicious served warm over pancakes, french toast, waffles, etc.
If you haven’t made homemade maple syrup before, it’s truly a cinch!
Homemade Maple Syrup
1 Cup Water
1 Cup Sugar
1 tsp. Maple Extract or Mapleine Imitation Flavoring
*Bring water and sugar to slow boil over low heat, stirring continually.
*Remove from heat before it comes to a rolling boil.
*Stir in maple extract as it is cooling.
*Serve warm.
The best part? It costs approximately 20 cents to make!
Since syrup doesn’t seem to last too long around here, I like to triple this recipe and store the leftovers in the fridge. If you haven’t tried making your own syrup yet, I highly encourage you to try. It’s simple, thrifty, and really delicious!

Mrs. NMOM note: I made this recipe over the weekend and I must say it was fabulous. Definitely going to be a keeper in our household.

I’m sorry but this isn’t homemade maple syrup. This is maple-flavored syrup. Real maple syrup does not contain high-fructose corn syrup -or- refined sugar as your recipe suggests.
Also, real maple syrup is so delicious and sweet you use significantly less of it than you do the imitation stuff.

I make homemade blueberry syrup with local honey instead of the refined sugar….delicious. It does come out a bit “lumpy” but my toddlers love it on their whole wheat waffles each morning.
