As you can imagine, I go through a lot of printer ink. I’ve found several different ways to save money on printer ink and thought I would share a few ways. Some of them were easy to implement. Others took a little adjustment. In all cases, though, I found that I spent less on printing supplies than I ever had before. Now, I can print out my files to my heart’s content and stop obsessing about how much each printer ink will cost me. .
The first and simplest way to save on printer ink I’ve found is to simply use less ink. Now, I don’t mean that I don’t print the things I want to. Instead, I’ve changed the settings on my printer to print with a low-quality or draft setting. Most of the time, I can’t even tell that I changed the setting. If I do happen to print something that needs to look a little nicer, I can always change the setting to something more appropriate for that document.
Another way to save on printer ink is to shop at discount ink websites like 123inkjets.com and 4inkjets.com. Both offer remanufactured inkjet cartridges at prices discounted to almost 50% less than buying name brand ones at Wal-mart or Target. I should mention that your computer may not “read” these remanufactured cartridges like it reads the name brand ones. You won’t be able to tell how much ink is left in your cartridge. However, these prices are so much cheaper that I don’t mind keeping an extra one in reserve to avoid surprises.
In addition to shopping at discount websites, I’ve also found that it’s possible to earn rebates on your inkjet purchases. InkBates.com is an internet site that makes shopping for ink cartridges pay you back. By registering with the website and beginning each of your ink-shopping excursions at their site, you can earn rebates on participating retailers’ websites. InkBates.com even provides you with sale or promotional information for their sponsor retailers.
Finally, for the truly frugal ink users, you can always opt to refill your cartridges yourself. The kits are available for about the price of one ink cartridge, but can refill as many as seven cartridges. I haven’t had a chance to try these out yet, but I’ve heard that they’re pretty to use.

Nice post
Everyone can save money in small and seemingly insignificant areas if you know how and where to do it.
These are all great ideas
Great tips! I’ll be coming back to learn more about saving money!
Good info. I never heard about the ink rebate so I signed up on thier site. As far as refilling your own cartridges. I’ve tried this twice and have never got it to work. It has been several years now so perhaps the process has improved. I will revisit. Thanks!
Nice tips!! I got high quality of printer ink at reasonable price from 4inkjets…
Warning on using inkbates.com. I have requested my rebate check over 2 months ago and cannot get any response from inkbates.com to any of my follow up emails. Buyer Beware!
