Beating Recession Depression

February 2nd, 2009 · 5 Comments

Has news about the current economy’s recession got you down? Almost every news show makes some mention of the economy. Even the commercials that interrupt your favorite shows refer to bankruptcies, job searches, and other economic ails. If all of this recession talk has caused you to dread dealing with your finances and start worrying about your financial future, you may be fighting a recession depression.

While being aware of the state of the economy is important, there is certainly a point where you can be too focused on the recession. If you’ve reached your breaking point, you can try these tips to break yourself out of the depression:

Turn the television off. I swear the news can be like a train wreck, sometimes. You know you aren’t getting anything good out of listening to more bad financial news, but you just can’t look away. If the stories on the television are starting to get you down, it’s time to just walk away. Read a book, play with the kids, or do anything else that gets your mind off of the recession.

Focus on what you can control. You can’t do a thing about the rising and falling of the stock market. You can, however, control how much you spend or save. Instead of worrying about the things you can’t change, give yourself a feeling of empowerment by taking charge of things that are within your control.

Find something positive in your life to appreciate. There is always something you can be happy about. In this time of rising unemployment, having a job in itself is positive. If you’re able to make your house payments each month, you have something else to be happy about.

Resolve not to let fear of the economy make your decisions for you. If you’ve scrimped and saved, for example, for a new oven, you should feel confident about going through with your purchase. Don’t feel like you’ve got to hoard your savings in case the economy doesn’t recover right away. Evaluate your individual situation to decide what things are right for you and your family.

To go with turning the TV off I would also add to stop reading news articles about it. They strive on negative stories and it’s only going to make things worse.

My parents grew up during the depression and they turned out fine. Both are now dead but I can say that if we all lived like they did the ENTIRE world would be better off . Only pay cash for what you NEED not what you want. The national debt is not what the depression years created. If the government would pay a price for an item like MOST people 25 cents for a bolt and not hundreds of dollars for the same item that you and I pay 25 cents or the current price at the hardware store then the national debt would not be where it is today. Is the reason for the high price just because the company can charge the GOVERNMENT what ever they want to because THE NEED IS THERE.
Can some one tell me WHY
