Weekend Roundup – Put Away The Christmas Stuff Edition

January 4th, 2009 · 1 Comment

We finished taking the outdoor Christmas decorations down yesterday and everything is all boxed up and put away. I made my master list of what Christmas decorations we have and what gifts I purchased for next year. I stapled this list to my 2009 calendar in the month of August, which is when I usually start my Christmas shopping. Here are some posts that I enjoyed reading this past week from the Frugal Blog Network and beyond.

Almost Frugal shares her 2009 resolutions.

Frugal Babe discusses how they lowered their health insurance premium by raising their deductible.

Frugal Zeitgeist welcomes the new year with a cleaning frenzy.

The Frugal Duchess shares some ways to save on home technology costs.

The Tight Fisted Miser lists the 5 things you should get for free.

From beyond:

American Consumer News has some great tips on making financials simple in 2009.

Karen at MSN Smart Spending reminds everyone that January is the time to hit those thrift stores.

Trent at The Simple Dollar has a very interesting article on how the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act which goes into effect February 10, 2009 is going to drive up the price of children’s clothing.

These are all wonderful tips. I am glad to have come across this blog early in the year when I am trying to start the year off right. Especially after the madness that was christmas 2008.

During my christmas shopping adventures I realised that I was spending way more by leaving the house to shop than to stay in and shop online. It seems that there are better slaes and ways to find deals online for better quality stuff than going to any store I was going to. Surprising to me – soomeone who was adamate that I would never online shop. With a firm grasp on this new knowledge I found a great online store that makes deal finding on the best gifts easy: http://www.sweetguides.ca

This year with a desire to be more frugal, have less debt and get better gifts next christmas season or even for birthdays, I wish everyone luck in 2009!
