If you’re anything like the rest of the world, the arrival of New Year’s Day brings one thing to mind: New Year’s resolutions. Your resolutions may cover a wide range of topics like being more patient with the kids or learning to be more frugal. However, many people, myself included, may find their New Year’s resolutions center around getting into shape.
Since I don’t want to forego all of the hard work I’ve put into getting my finances in order, I’m focused on finding ways to become more fit that don’t break my budget. Joining a gym may be out of the question, but there are still a ton of other things I can do to get into shape. Here are a few of the ideas I’m hoping to put to use:
Go for a walk. You’d be surprised how much you’ll enjoy a routine that includes a brisk walk. Imagine having a few minutes to yourself each day to think over the day’s events and plan for the next day. Or, if you prefer to take the kids with you, you can look forward to sharing your neighborhood (and the rest of the world) with them as you explore your surroundings.
Join a team. If you have a hard time with procrastinating about working out, joining a recreational team may be the perfect solution. Becoming part of a team that plays regularly with encourage you to schedule your workout time each week. Choose a sport you enjoy like basketball or soccer and get ready to have a great time.
Play with the kids. Now, I really mean “play” with the kids. When they are enjoying a lively game of Tag or Hide and Seek, don’t hesitate to join in. You’d be surprised how much exercise these youngsters get each and every day. Although you may find yourself getting winded the first few times you play, you’ll soon be able to hold your own against your little athletes.
Find a new hobby. If team sports aren’t your thing and returning to your childhood doesn’t sound appealing to you, a new hobby may be the easiest way to break extra activity into your life. Gardening is a great way to sneak a little exercise into your routine. Alternatively, hiking or bicycling are other great hobbies that will result in a healthier you.
