As you’re frantically searching to find just the gifts for your family this year, it’s easy to forget to plan your stocking stuffers. After all, you’ve probably got much bigger fish to fry this Christmas. Your spouse has his eye on a new DVD player; your kids want the latest toys. You’ve probably been all over town trying to find the items on Santa’s shopping list at a good price.
Fortunately, finding fun, festive stocking stuffers can be really easy. By keeping your eye open for little extras, you can be sure to have the best stockings on the block.
Socks – Socks are just right for including in stockings, but forget about the basic, white sock. Instead, keep an eye out for cute, novelty socks. You can find fun socks with Christmas motifs, animals, or even phrases on them. Mittens are another great option.
Candy – Candy of all shapes and sizes are always a welcome addition to any stocking. You can use Christmas candy or just gather together your loved one’s favorites.
Hair accessories – Young girls can never have too many pretty things to use in their hair. Check out your favorite dollar store to find ribbons or barrettes that are sure to have your little girl playing dress up right away.
Gum/Mints – My husband never thinks to buy his own gum, but he always enjoys the new flavors I find to hide in his stocking. You can stick with a tried and true favorite, or take a turn with the newest gums.
Travel Games – Pint-sized versions of your kids favorite games fit perfectly into Christmas stockings. You can find a travel, magnetic checkers game. I’ve even seen tiny Etch-a-Sketch.
Chapstick – Mini-sized toiletry items are always popular for stockings. Boys will probably favor plain Chapstick while girls may prefer a flavored lip gloss or miniature bottles of lotions.
$1 Goodies – Don’t forget to look at the $1 bins in all of your favorite stores. Joann’s and Target both have some of my favorite $1 sections. The stock there is always changing, so check back often.

Great article. My kids (now grown) tell me they look forward to opening their stockings just as much (if not more) than opening the gifts. I love to put all kinds of small, useful (and silly) gifts in their stockings. That’s also a good place for all the extra batteries for the toys that Santa brings.
Be really careful with novelty socks. Mothers seem to love them way more than any kid over say 8. Its not frugal to buy them something they won’t wear (and even if they will wear them, they’re only seasonal briefly and may be lost before the next holiday), even if cheap.
I am almost 30 now and my mom still fills stockings for me and my husband. Its always full of stuff I can use, from hair bands to chapstick and starbucks gift cards (an orange and candy of course). Its as fun as receiving any other gifts.
