As Christmas gets closer and eventually passes, bargain hunters can find a lot of great deals if they know where to look. There’s almost no limit to the great deals you can find if you are patient.
Winter clothes – If you’re not in a hurry to buy new sweaters or boots before Christmas, you can buy them after the holidays for almost pennies on the dollar. For the best selection, check out your favorite retailers during the week between Christmas and New Year’s. You’ll find clearance sales everywhere.
Fad toys – Just before Christmas, retailers start to realize which toys didn’t live up to their hype. Maybe, for instance, D-Rex wasn’t as big a hit with the toddler crowd as it was expected to be. Once the holidays have passed, you can expect retailers to start cleaning their toys shelves out of the special stock that they ordered just for the holidays. Just keep an eye open for those glaring orange and red stickers that result in huge discounts. You can put these gifts away in your gift closet for future use.
Christmas décor – Once the holiday rush is over, December is the perfect time to buy decorations for next year’s holiday. Are you looking to upgrade to a larger tree? Keep an eye out for closeouts after Christmas has passed. You should, however, be prepared to act quickly on these.
Carpet/Flooring – If you can stand the thought of having your home in disarray during the holidays, December can be the best time of year to purchase new carpet or other flooring for your home. Although you may be inconvenienced with having to move furniture around, the savings can be well worth it.
Air Conditioners – Since almost no one is thinking about the need for cooler air this time of year, it’s the perfect time to be in the market for a new air conditioner. The same principle applies to gas grills, too.
Home electronics – Although a new LCD television will always be expensive, you can mitigate some of that expense by shopping in December for your home electronics. Try waiting until Christmas is here or has just passed. By that time, the latest technology will have been out for a little while and won’t be so “in demand.”

These are great tips… post-Christmas shopping almost always leads to savings, but I really like having the added insurance of purchasing things out-of-season to make even better deals. I had never thought of air conditioners in December! (Now… where would you find one?)
