Great Buys During the Month of August

1. August 2008, 8:37 UhrSaving MoneyDana Joseph

As the last vestiges of summer start to slip away, you may find yourself saddened. The long days of sunshine will soon be gone; you and your family will be back to the humdrum routine of school schedules. Before the thought of summer’s end gets you too depressed, take heart. The end of summer brings some pretty spectacular savings in many different departments of your favorite stores.

Summer Clothes – Summer apparel like shorts, swimsuits, and t-shirts are a steal during August. The stores are very motivated to move these clothing items to make room for fall clothes and their pricing shows their motivation. This is a great opportunity to stock up for next summer or any warm-weather winter vacation you may have planned.

Pool Supplies – Having a pool requires all types of expensive extras. Stocking up at the end of the season can go a long way towards making your pool maintenance more affordable. Check clearance aisles for the chemicals and cleaning tools that make your pool enjoyable. While you’re there, don’t forget to throw in a new floating ring or raft for next year.

Grills and Accessories – If you’ve had your eye on a new grill, August may be the perfect month to make your purchase. You’ll get a great price on your grill and any extras you might need. Just think of all of the new meal options you’ll have.

Window and Table Fans – Part of the seasonal clearance items you’ll find during August often includes fans of all shapes and sizes. Moving air with a fan is a much more economical way to cool your home. Before you know it you’ll be able to turn your air conditioner off and take advantage of the upcoming milder weather.

Whatever your favorite summer pastime is, be sure to keep an eye for the opportunity to buy the necessary supplies for it in August. As the stores make way for fall festivities like Halloween and the return to school, you’ll be certain to find great bargains on the things you’ll want next summer. Your only problem will be finding a place to store it all until then.
