With Easter closing in on you quickly, you may be thinking about how you’re going to make the holiday special for your family. Department store aisles are filled with expensive, pre-assembled Easter baskets, but those might not have the personal touch that you have in mind. Fortunately, there are many special treats you can make to bring a smile to your loved ones’ faces this Easter.

Spritz Cookies – These buttery treats are sure to satisfy your family’s needs for sweets while fitting right in among the pretty colors associated with Easter baskets. Use a cookie press with a decorative plate to make cookies in the shape of flowers or puppies. A few drops of food coloring will even allow you to make these cookies in your family’s favorite colors.

Mini-Easter Baskets – If you want to do something special for your friends, without spending a lot of money, try making mini-baskets for them. You can purchase small take-out food boxes (Crafts stores like Michael’s sell them in pretty colors.) and fill them with inexpensive goodies. Don’t be afraid to get creative when you’re choosing you’re filling. Office companions might appreciate decorative Post-It’s. Your friends’ children will love to find stickers waiting in their box. Add a pretty bow and you’re done.

Homemade Chocolates – Choose a mold that features your children’s favorite cartoon characters. You can pour melted chocolate into the molds and you’ll have candies in no time. Wilton makes chocolate discs just for these types of projects in many different colors. You can even add lollipop sticks to make your chocolates into suckers.

Hair Accessories – Treat your little girl, or your friends’ little girls, with accessories made just for them. Small scraps of fabric can easily be turned into cloth headbands. A hot glue gun and some ribbon can transform those cheap, plain barrettes into something that will make your little girl’s day.

Rice Krispy Treats – Rice Krispy treats are another sweet treat that you can make. To keep them aligned with your Easter theme, consider using pastel-colored marshmallows or wrapping it in color plastic wrap.

Making your own treats for your family is a great way to add that special touch to your family’s Easter baskets. Your family will love their goodies and you’ll love knowing that you made them yourself.
