in Saving Money

When spring approaches, you might make a few changes in your closet. Your long-sleeved sweaters are banished to the back of the closet while more lightweight shirts make their way to the front of the closet. Your chunky winter boots are replaced by fun sandals.

Why should the rest of your home miss out on all of the fun? Like your closet, your home décor may be screaming for a spring update. Consider trying these methods to incorporate the change of seasons into your house.

Incorporate plants into your home. Nothing exemplifies spring like live, growing plants. For a few dollars, you can purchase seeds and start growing your own decorations. Plant your seeds in inexpensive pots available at your local dollar store or thrift store.

Swap heavy drapes for lighter, sheer window dressings. You can take advantage of the increased daylight hours by letting more light into your own home. And imagine how pretty these lightweight curtains will look floating in the breeze when you open your windows to enjoy the temperate weather.

Change up the colors in your living room. During winter months, it’s only natural to want to be surrounded by warm colors and fabrics to help combat the chill of the season. Now that spring is eminent, you can replace your accessories like pillows or candles with colors more appropriate for spring. To save money on this project, you could consider covering your winter pillows with slipcovers. Then next fall, you can simply remove the slipcovers.

Add a wreath to your front door. Sure, you probably had one up for the holiday, but this time try to find a wreath with spring flowers on them, such as lilacs or apple blossoms. If you watch the craft store ads, you can probably pick one of these wreaths up relatively cheaply.

Rotate the artwork in your home. As you change the colors of your décor to fit the new season, the art on your walls may need to be changed, as well. You can purchase art prints and pop them into your existing frames to complete your spring decorating.

Bringing the colors and feeling of spring into your home décor doesn’t have to be an overpowering change. By simply changing a few things you can keep your home feeling fresh without spending a lot of money.
