Learning to watch the sales ads for stores that cater to your hobby will allow you to purchase the things you need to pursue your hobby at a lower price.
2. Find supplies for your hobby in unexpected places. Some of the best woodworking projects are crafted from discarded scraps from other projects. Clothing articles that are past their prime can still be useful; quilters can incorporate their fabric into their handiwork. Utilizing found or repurposed materials into your hobby saves money and allows you to recycle things that might have otherwise ended up in the trash.
3. Shop for your hobby supplies during their off-season. Gardeners will find that their supplies are often deeply discounted as the summer days turn to fall. Along the vein of #2, garage sales are a great place to find craft supplies. Even if you just needs some fabric or beads — one man’s junk is another man’s treasure

My husband is an avid outdoorsman and we have found that most of his supplies can be bought at huge discounts in the off seasons-camping supplies in the winter, hunting supplies in the summer, etc. Buying out of season can bring huge savings and can allow you to buy more of something that you will use in the next years season, like lanterns and fire starters.

A great place to find yarn is a thrift store. If you are looking for some interesting yarn or even crochet hooks/knitting needles there are generally some availalble. I have gotten new yarn at a store for less than the cost of one skein of yarn from Joann’s.
Also Joann’s has yarn on sale often, if there is something you are itching to try, sign up for their coupons and you can use the discount on the regular price of the item – generally 40% off.
