Christmas Wrap-Up – Finished My Inventory List For Next Year

January 3rd, 2008 · 1 Comment

We’ve taken our Christmas tree down and are slowly removing all the other decor items. By this coming weekend all the decorations will be packed up and ready for storage. I’ve been keeping a running list of what items I have and what items I will be needing for next Christmas. I won’t be needing any more gift wrap, tags, or bows since I stocked up on those at the clearance sales. When this master list is completed, I will staple it into my calender planner for the month of July. That way I can begin my preparations early and will already know what items I will be looking for and also where everything is stored.

On my master list I have also noted any relevant information about clearance sales (both before and after the holiday) so I can prepare in advance next year. I consider this master list a kind of “cheat sheet” because I tend to forget some of the details (like what I already bought and where I stored it) from year to year. This list saves me money because I am not tempted to purchase stuff I don’t need until it goes on clearance after next Christmas.

I was so glad that we bought a few extra rolls of wrapping this time last year when they were super cheap. My husband and I didn’t have to buy a single thing this Christmas except for the gifts, which we kept pretty small. It looks like we even have enough paper left for next year — thanks in part to our small gifts and small gift list.

We were really looking forward to breaking even this month, but of course, we still ended up spending about as much as last year. One of our kitties ate some ribbon and got very sick (costing us nearly a grand). Oh well. Maybe next year we’ll break even.

In the meantime, I’m even more glad that we didn’t overspend on gifts and decorations.
