I mentioned last month that I have begun my Christmas shopping. When I changed the calendar page on my desktop calendar from July to August, I found the inventory list I’d made last year when the holidays were over. This list shows me what Christmas decor items I have and which ones I will need to purchase for this year.
I’ve found that I save money by keeping track of what I already have, and by shopping early for gifts and Christmas related items. I know I will need some more gift wrap this year so I will be checking out my local dollar store as they tend to get Christmas related items early. For a dollar a roll you really can’t beat the price. I’ve found some really cute character themed wrap for the kids which was way cuter than anything I’d found at Target last year.
For now I am watching the toy sales at Target although they have seemed to have let up in the past week. I am buying one gift card per week for the nieces and nephews who live out of state. I’ve already purchased a few toys for my own children but have yet to wrap them, although they are well hidden. This year I am determined to get all the gifts wrapped by Thanksgiving!
Since I plan to make a few Christmas gifts this year, I’ve already started on a few projects. By starting early I can be sure I will actually get the gift completed and not be so stressed out that I miss the fun of the holidays.

I’ve begun as well.
I have several toy items put up for my kids- one being an expensive American Girl doll I got for FREE. My order was messed up and the doll was sent that I didn’t order. I expected a packing slip to be sent to me but customer service advised I get to keep it. Hence, my eldest daughter’s big present is already obtained & FREE.
My eldest son is all about Harry Potter- and not just because of the rage this summer. I’m getting stuff now that its out there and hiding it away.
A funny present I’ve already bought is a sweatshirt for my sister in law. I got it at the summer camp we all went to as kids (now my kids are going there). She will love it!
I find the biggest hitch to getting ready for Christmas is coming up with ideas. But this year, I’m loaded with plenty of good ideas!

I’ve started my holiday shopping also, although I’m not nearly as organized as you! If I have the chance, I always look for bargains whenever I’m at a store (I actually do this year-round). For example, yesterday I picked up a couple of copies of a wonderful children’s book called John, Paul, George and Ben – originally priced at $16.98, it was in the bargain section at BN for $5.98. Thanks for the tip on the Dollar Store – I’ll have to see if the one near me has holiday stuff already.
