Sales Tax Holiday – Save Money On More Than Just Back To School Supplies

August 4th, 2007 · No Comments

Here in the State of Florida the sales tax holiday begins today, August 4, 2007 and lasts through August 13, 2007. If you don’t have young ones heading back to school you may be thinking “big deal” on the tax savings. However, there are many items included in the tax holiday that have nothing to do with school supplies. Here is a list of some of the items that you may be surprised to find on the Florida Sales Tax Holiday list (must cost $50 or less per item to be tax exempt):

1. Accessory items such as handbags, neckwear, ties, wallets, scarves, aerobic clothing and aprons.

2. Baby clothing, backpacks, bathing suits and coverups, boots (except ski boots), and bras.

3. Caps, hats, costumes, coin purses, and coats.

4. Diaper bags, diapers, and dresses.

5. Employee uniforms, fanny packs, fishing vests, formal clothing (as long as it’s not rented).

6. Leather gloves, garden gloves, and work gloves.

7. Hair bows, hosiery, and hunting vests.

8. Jackets and jeans.

9. Lab coats, leg warmers, leotards, and lingerie.

10. Martial arts attire.

11. Raincoats, receiving blankets, and robes.

12. Shawls, shoe inserts, and shirts.

13. Sleepwear, shoes, shorts, socks, suits, sweaters, and swim trunks.

You can maximize your savings by purchasing items that are already on sale. Many stores will be featuring special promotions as well. Also you might want to think about doing some early Christmas shopping!

You can print out a list of taxable and tax exempt items for the 2007 Florida Sales Tax
Holiday to take with you when shopping.

If you do not live in Florida, check to see if your state is offering a sales tax holiday. You may be pleasantly surprised at what is included on the list. I know that Georgia’s Sales Tax Holiday includes as tax exempt a single purchase of $1,500 or less of personal computers and/or related accessories.
