Last week when I was in the grocery store, I happened to spot the latest Woman’s Day magazine which contained the headline, “Save $1,000’s at The Supermarket”. Of course that headline caught my attention so I took a peek at the article to see if there were any “secrets” that I didn’t already know about.
The article really just provided the basics without many details. These basics include making and sticking to your grocery shopping list, comparison shopping at different stores, watching the sales for the big markdowns, shopping once per week, using up leftovers, cutting down on impulse buys, and checking on unit prices.
To really see savings on food expenses, you need to use all of these methods. Of course, making a weekly menu and sticking to it goes a long way in keeping costs down by allowing you to plan your food instead of being overcome by the “what’s for dinner” syndrome that usually hits about 4 p.m. I use all of the above mentioned methods and they have allowed us to save quite a bit on our food expenses.
