Frugality in Practice – Using Half As Much To Make It Last Twice As Long

In keeping with frugality, there are several products we use only half as much of, in an attempt to get it to last twice as long. Even though it is only a small savings per item, those pennies do add up! We just experimented with using different amounts of the following products until we found amounts that achieved the desired purpose.

1. Dishwasher detergent. I’ve found that filling up one of the detergent holders, as opposed to both of them, gets the dishes just as clean.

2. Clothing detergent. We use only half of the recommended amount of liquid laundry detergent and the laundry comes out fine.

3. Dish soap. When washing dishes in the sink, I only use 1 tsp of liquid soap.

4. Liquid Hand Soap. We all use only one pea-size amount of hand soap.

5. Toothpaste. Instead of a strip of paste, we use only a pea-sized dab.

6. Shampoo. We wash our hair one time instead of the recommended rinse and repeat instructions.

Great ideas! We’ve been finding the same with regards to the laundry detergent and toothpaste, and have recently discovered this recipe for stretching milk!

Someone posted a recipe for making laundry detergent. Check it out. I cannot bring myself to look at a recipe for stretching milk, however.
Thanks for the tips!
