‘Tis the Season For Garage Sales

March 13th, 2007 · 1 Comment

It’s that time of year again. Spring is on its way and garage sales are starting to pick up. I plan on going to lots of garage sales in the coming weeks and here are some methods I am going to use to find some bargains:

1. Get there early. The early bird really does get the worm, or in this case, the bargains. I always plan to be at garage sales when they open but I am careful to not go too early and possibly irritate the homeowners.

2. Make a plan ahead of time. I scour the newspaper ads for garage sales and neighborhood sales and plan my route accordingly. I know from past years when certain neighborhoods have their annual sales.

3. Get cash during the week. I make sure everything is ready to go and that I won’t have to make a last minute stop at the ATM for cash. Make sure you have lots of small change since you might not be able to get change in the early hours of the garage sales.

4. I make a list of items I am looking for including the appropriate sizes. The last thing I want to do is to buy an incorrect size. I just make a note of what size the kids are wearing now, and what size they will need in a year for seasonal clothing. As I purchase items, I cross them off the list.

Great tips. You get your choice early in the morning, true, but you can also get bargains at the end when the sellers just want to get rid of things.
