We made our weekly visit to our local McDonalds the other day. We still had some gift certificates left over from a previous visit and I wanted to use them up. We only had $5 worth though and the order total was $10.74.
After giving my order at the drive-thru window, I proceeded to the pay window. I offered the gal at the window the $5 in gift certificates and my debit card. She refused and said that I had to pay in either all gift certificates, all in cash, or all on my debit card. I had never heard of this before. I didn’t want to call the manager over since we were at the drive thru, so I paid with my debit card. I do intend to go inside the McDonalds the next time we visit and try again to see if they will handle a split register transaction inside.

That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. Definatley let me know what the manager has to say about that!

Mcdonalds registers cannot do split transactions, normally, however gift certificates are another story. th cashier was probably not aware that a split transaction can be done with gift certificates
