How? With a price guarantee. Many stores offer some type of price guarantee where they will offer you a competitor’s advertised price. This is called price matching. But some stores also offer a price guarantee for a limited time even after you make a purchase. It pays to know each store’s policy as it can save you money if you find the item you purchased at a lower price somewhere else. Here is an example of how we saved money this past week using this technique.
Our cordless phone was on its last days, and we had been looking around for a new one for a while now. We had decided on the Motorola E52 because it had the features we were looking for and have been watching the sales to find the best deal. Last week this phone went on sale at Best Buy for $69.99 which is $20 less than its listed price. We bought the phone on Friday. In today’s Sunday paper, we saw that Circuit City has the exact same phone on sale for $59.99, a difference of $10. We will be utilizing the Best Buy price guarantee that states:
“If you already bought the item, we’ll refund you the price difference from our own sale price, or 110% of the difference from our competitor’s sale price, up to 30 days after your purchase (14 days on select categories).” Either way, simply bring in a proof of price while that lower price is in effect.
.
It is important to save your receipts so that you can take advantage of these types of offers. Also, you will need to bring the sale ad showing the advertised sale price.
I have used this method at Target in the past and found it especially helpful during the Christmas holidays when gifts I had purchased came on sale at a later date.
