I posted the other day how How To Get A Better Price Even After You Make A Purchase. My husband went yesterday afternoon to Best Buy and was successful in utilizing the price guarantee on the Motorola cordless phone we had purchased on Friday, which subsequently went on sale on Sunday at Circuit City. Here is a summary of the steps he took to get the money back.
1. He brought the original receipt from the phone purchase along with a copy of Circuit City’s sale ad for Sunday.
2. He went to the Customer Service desk and explained that the phone he had purchased on Friday was now on sale at Circuit City.
3. After verifying the phone was indeed on sale, the clerk issued a refund in the amount of 110% of the difference of Circuit City’s sales price which amounted to $11.74.
Lessons learned: Always save receipts, know your store’s price guarantee policy, and check the sale ads for lower prices on items you recently purchased.

I couldn’t agree more. Saving receipts seems so trivial, but has really saved us quite a bit of money. I recently posted on keeping receipts as well but for price adjustment reasons: http://whatworksforus.blogspot.com/2007/07/save-keep-receipts.html
