We took our 1999 Dodge Caravan in for service this week. It was time for an oil change, plus we’d been noticing a strong gas smell intermittently. We own this van outright, and it has 112,000 miles on it and runs like a charm.Â
We’re fortunate that we’ve found a reliable auto repair shop. They don’t recommend fixes we don’t need and they’ve kept our van running in great shape. This time we got an oil change, an adjustment made to the brakes, and some other misc checks. They were unable to find the exact problem with the gas smell, but are surmising it has something to do with a couple of dirty injectors. Since they cannot pinpoint the problem, they did not recommend any further repairs at this time. We paid for the repairs out of our emergency fund, so no worries there.  For now the van is running well and we are very thankful for that. We are saving up to purchase another used vehicle in the future and are optimistic that this current van will last until then.Â
