Saving Time In The Kitchen – Organizing The Pantry

I’ve written previously that I attempt to save as much time as I possibly can with “kitchen duty”.   One way I save time is by timed grocery shopping, where I try to get in and out of the grocery store quickly.

Keeping the pantry organized is another kitchen time saving measure.  This allows me to quickly make my shopping list, find ingredients when I am cooking a meal, and since “everything has a place” the kids can help to put the groceries away.

I use my own method, and place items into categories on the pantry shelving with the most used items placed at eye level and where I can reach them the easiest.  Baking items such as salt, flour, sugar, and other ingredients are stored together.  Another area is for the pasta and rice.  A low pantry shelf is devoted to snack foods like pretzel and crackers.  Canned goods are organized into vegetables and soups.  Cereals are on the top shelf.  Plastic bags, napkins, etc. are organized on the lowest shelf.

This is an easy way to streamline the cooking process and it also saves money because I am not buying items that I already have!
