Bad Ebay Sellers – Buyer Beware

I was reading over at the Mighty Bargain Hunter about a former good powerseller on ebay who apparently decided to take the money and not ship the goods.  This is concerning to me as I just recently have started purchasing children’s clothing on Ebay.

Now, I have had great success thus far.  The items I’ve won at auction have arrived on a very timely basis (actually really quickly) and in the exact condition stated.  I did use “powerseller” status to help me decide which auctions to bid on, as I felt with a large amount of positive feedback and the powerseller status, I was taking on minimal risk.  It seems like Paypal is going to need to tighten up on fraud controls as well, as many folks who paid through Paypal (and not received their merchandise) are not getting their money refunded.

Having been an ebay seller for about 5 years now, I can say that a powerseller is no more likely to be a ‘good’ seller than any other. In some cases, in fact, just the opposite is true, as powersellers must maintain a certain level of sales to earn that title. In doing so, other areas may get neglected, like customer service… Personally, I’ve received the best deals & service, from the ’small’ sellers, the ‘mom & pop’ type of sellers that ebay was created for! Just read feedback and judge from there~ there are good and bad sellers, both in powersellers and non, as in all walks of life!

One thing I do if I’m uncertain of a seller is ask a question. If I do not receive a timely and polite reply, I don’t buy there…

Enjoy your blog~ glad to have found it!

Pam,

Thanks so much for your insight on powersellers! I’ll use your idea of asking a seller a question to check out their “customer service” before I bid.

It is nice to hear that someone actually reads this blog and enjoys it!
