Christmas Tradition – Outdoor Christmas Lights

One of our favorite traditions during the Christmas season is to take nightly drives through our neighborhood and look at Christmas lights.  It is inexpensive to do, and lots of fun to see the way people decorate their yard and the lights and decor items they choose.  We usually remember our favorites year after year so we check those homes first, to see if they’ve done the same theme.  We have neighbors who have had their Christmas display up for the past several weeks.  They seem to be in competition with the neighbors across the street.   Both homes have the new inflatable snow globe type of lawn decor.  One of them has a moving carousel inside.  This year we’ve seen a lot of the lighted deer and holiday inflatables like bears, penguins, dogs, and snow men.  We especially like the homes that decorate with a nativity scene.  Our kids give names to each of the displays so they can remember them.  They like to visit the “Candy Cane Palace”, a very large lawn display featuring 2 story candy canes; the big “show”, which is a yard full of blinking and flashing Christmas decor including Santa on a sleigh, penguins, a train, and even a flashing lighted toy helicopter; and the house with the “penguin on the igloo”.

What a great (an inexpensive) tradition! I always seem to like the free things about the holidays the best.

We’re running a holiday credit and debt haiku contest on CreditBloggers.com today. You should write some about your unique holiday traditions! http://www.creditbloggers.com/2006/12/funny_money_fri.html
