Everybody loves a great party.  Whether to celebrate an anniversary, new baby, birthday party, or just a holiday weekend, the party expenses can quickly add up.  Here are some ways to save money while still having a great time.

1.  Plan early.  Give yourself several months (or more) to pull things together.  This will allow you to shop for the best deals, get first pick on location if you need to rent a place, and just in general get things organized.

2.  Do it yourself as much as possible and enlist the help of family and friends.  Instead of picking up those expensive party platters from your local grocery store, put them together yourself.  Just plan to prepare the party foods a day in advance and keep them refrigerated until time for the party.  Cut up the vegetables, make your own dip, and make your own cheese platter.  Consider having a family potluck and ask all the attendees to bring a favorite dish to share.

3.  Shop the dollar store for your tablecloths, banners, centerpieces, balloons, and other party goods.  The dollar store is also a great place to put together some very inexpensive goody bags with things like stickers, bubbles, small toys, etc.
