Scunci Steamer

August 25th, 2006 Comments(0)

She says:

Have you heard about the scunci steamer? There is an interesting infomercial on it. Anyway, it is marketed as a professional steamer which comes with all sorts of attachments. There is a floor model as well as a handheld steamer which is good for cleaning all sorts of items in your home. I wrote a week or two ago that you can save money in your home by being a “do it yourself” type, and that includes steaming the carpets clean! It is also advertised as being great for cleaning bathrooms and mirrors, has a lot of uses in the kitchens for counter tops and your appliances, and of course works for floor tile and carpets. When I was looking at my local Big Lots, I saw they were running a great sale on two of the scunci steamers. The Sanitizing pressuring steamer was on sale for $40 (which normally has a $100 price), and the 1000W pressurized handheld steamer was on sale for $30 (with a normal price of $59.99.  This is a good deal if you are in the market for one.

Dish Network 24

August 24th, 2006 Comments(0)

One way to save money is on your cable or satelite provider.  Why pay all that money for channels you never use?  How many times have you said, all these channels and there is nothing on.  We have said this many times.

We have a satelite dish from Dish Network.  We have the top 120 channels programming that comes with music channels, other channels that they throw in and we also pay extra for all the local channels.  I found that we have 161 channels.  Of which, there is never anything on to watch or at least not worth watching.  I figured that we watch maybe 32 channels sometimes but only 23 channels do we watch with regularity.  So, what to do?

Dish Network has many different types of programming options.  I think that you should be able to pick and choose which channels you want and pay only for what you want.  But unfortunately, the cable companies and the satellite companies do not see it that way.  That’s for another post.  Back to where I was,  we could go down to the Top 60 or there is a new option called DishFamily.  We are going with this one and we will save half.  That is right we will be paying half of what we were paying by changing to the DishFamily.  Yes we will be losing some channels, but the payoff is worth it.

Now once you are saving the money, do not go out and spend it.  At the end of each month, take that money that you have saved and put it into your cash reserve fund and compound your savings by making money on your money.  Remember some of the Money Market Funds are paying more than 5%.

Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fan

August 07th, 2006 Comments(4)

We are focusing this week on ways to save money on your household expenses. Yesterday, I posted about using window tinting and how that can greatly reduce your home energy costs. Well on the same theme, using a ceiling fan can definitely help save money on your home’s energy expenses. Many of these ceiling fans are decorative too, so you can save money and make your room look better!

I was looking at Lowe’s sales ad for this week and they have quite a few of the Harbor Breeze ceiling fans on sale. Harbor Breeze is Lowe’s brand of ceiling fan.  Lowe’s is a local do-it-yourself home improvement store.  We’ve saved lots of money on stuff for our home by learning “how to do it ourselves”.

The 52″ Bellhaven Ceiling fan comes in a bronze or nickel finish. It has 5 reversible cherry blades and comes with a 4 light alabaster glass kit. The sale price is $119. Another Harbor Breeze model on sale is the 42″ Princess Euro ceiling fan with an antique nickel and chrome finish. A light kit is included and the advertised sale price is $59. The most inexpensive Harbor Breeze fan advertised is the 42″ Ocracoke Dual Mount ceiling fan for $39.97. As always, shop around and compare prices and options (light kit included or not) when purchasing a ceiling fan.
