I have been looking at personal financial blogs and want to start adding some to the blogroll. I found  A Penny Saved and spent some time reading through the blog.  I must say there are some good ideas to be found here.  So if you have a moment, head on over there.

“Drive It Till The Wheels Fall Off”

She says:

I could have also named this post “Recent debt temptation” but thought the “drive it until the wheels fall off” was more interesting.  It’s been our motto for years regarding our vehicles.  We do not have any car debt.  We own our 1999 Dodge Caravan with 105,000 miles on it.  It has been running like a charm until this past year.  Actually almost the moment the odometer hit 103,000, we’ve had one problem after another.  After the fourth time going into the shop (and having pretty steep repair bills), I really began to question our decision to continue to put money in this car.  I looked around online and checked some car prices, but we are not in a position right now to pay cash for another vehicle.  We need a van, only thing that will fit all the kids and car seats and such.  We made the decision to try another car repair place (we knew the owner from years back).  They fixed all the problems and it runs like a charm again!  I hope we get another 105,000 miles out of it!  Hey, we are still debt free :)

Tracking Your Money

He says:

Hi, I first want to the thank all the veterans for their service.  I want to thank the current members of the military for serving and protecting us.  I want to thank the family members of all veterans for their sacrifice.

My wonderful wife mentions our plan of attack on our spending plan/budget.  Using a computer software program makes this process a lot easier.  One area that I like a lot is tracking our monthly and yearly spending.  Not only does it help us stay on track or help us to get back on track; it helps us to find ways to save our money and ways to think about changing our expenses.

For example, say you are spending too much on an area of your budget.  The software not only tells you how much you are spending but more importantly where you are spending it.  Then you can take your receipts and break down where you can save or not spend in the first place.  Sometimes all it takes is to be more aware of your spending habits in order to make a change.

Good night and God Bless!
